Amazonian Aerosol Characterization Experiment
Aerosols in the Amazon Basin have been the focus of numerous field campaigns in the past 20 years. However, the logistical difficulties in Amazonia have constrained measurements temporally, spatially, and technically.
The Amazonian Aerosol Characterization Experiment (AMAZE-08) was carried out in the northern Amazon during the wet season (February 07 to March 14, 2008). Real-time measurements of particle concentration, size, and composition provided an opportunity to investigate the chemical and microphysical properties of nearly pure biogenic organic aerosol particles and improve the uncertainties of parameterizations of Amazonian aerosols.
For more information about this campaign, please browse the AMAZE website at http://www.seas.harvard.edu/AMAZE-08
Support was received from the U.S. National Science Foundation (NSF). This research is part of the Millennium Institute of the Brazilian Largescale Biosphere-Atmosphere (LBA) Experiment.
