EXAM GROUP: 10, 11 Phenomenology and theory of the mechanisms by which solids can deform, including elastic deformation, microscopic dislocation glide and the kinetics of slip, creep by dislocation motion, creep by diffusion of single ions, twinning, and fracture. The results are applied to several case studies using deformation mechanism maps. Note: Expected to be given in 2003–04. Prerequisite: Knowledge of thermodynamics and elements of crystal structure. |
