Types of Nectar Funding

There are two tracks for Nectar funding: Projects and Competitions. All social/community building initiatives are funded through the Office of Academic Programs.

Within each track, there are two application periods: Term funding and Long-Term funding.

The Projects Track supports students or teams of students working on co-curricular design projects. This includes students who are exploring a given design challenge, developing a prototype to solve this challenge, or refining and implementing their solution.

The Competitions Track supports teams of students working towards entering a national or international competition. These competitions must be centered around designing a prototype or solution as specified in the competition rules. Teams entering the competition must be sponsored by SEAS and supported by the Teaching Labs and an appropriate faculty advisor.

Application Periods

Term funding is semester-long funding for individuals or small groups that are working on an independent project/competition for a set period of time. Term funding applications are due in the first couple weeks of each semester, and the funding must be used within the semester-long period.

Long-Term funding is funding for projects/competitions with SEAS institutional support that require reoccurring funding over the course of several years. Long-Term funding applications are due in the first couple weeks of the fall semester. Funding is awarded for a annual time period with commitment to continue supporting the initiative in future years. Funded initiatives will receive half of their funding in the fall, and are required to submit a Mid-Year Check In to receive the second installment of their funding.
