National Engineers Week Is February 18-24, 2007

CAMBRIDGE, Mass. - February 9, 2007 - Engineers Week, a formal coalition of more than 75 engineering, professional, and technical societies and more than 50 corporations and government agencies, was founded in 1951 by the National Society of Professional Engineers.

The program is dedicated to ensuring a diverse and well-educated future engineering workforce by increasing understanding of and interest in engineering and technology careers among young students and by promoting pre-college literacy in math and science.

Wednesday, February 21, 3-6 pm, MD Lobby and a High Window

Team up with faculty, students, and staff to build a safe haven to help fragile eggs survive a gravity-gulping fall from several stories up. 2007 TEAMS Competition

Harvard is hosting the 2007 TEAMS (Test of Engineering Aptitude, Mathematics and Science) competition for high schools in the Cambridge/greater Boston area on Saturday, March 3, 2007.

TEAMS is an annual national competition for high school students with an interest in math, science, and engineering applications.

Each year, TEAMS brings together more than 14,000 students and 700 educators from around the country to solve real-world engineering challenges-in a fun and fast-paced environment that inspires creativity, teamwork, critical thinking, and peer-to-peer cooperation.

2007 Microsoft Imagine Cup Semi-Finals

Saturday, April 7

Students (from across the country) will compete in nine categories spanning software design and short film to challenges involving algorithms and programming. Students’ work will reflect valuable, real-world solutions that address the pressing global issue of education while giving them the opportunity to compete for generous cash prizes.

Harvard will host the semi-final programming competition and a related career fair (with about 20 companies, including Microsoft). 125 student competitors are expected to attend (with 200 total participants, including Microsoft staff, company reps, etc.)

Note: A Harvard undergraduate team will compete!
