Gifts of Securities & Mutual Funds
Making a gift of securities is both simple and tax efficient because you receive a double tax benefit. With a gift of appreciated securities, you are entitled to a federal income tax charitable deduction if you itemize your return. For appreciated securities held longer than one year, you may deduct the full fair market value of your gift. A second tax benefit with a gift of appreciated securities is that you avoid any capital gains tax.
To make a gift of stocks, bonds, or mutual funds, please call the Harvard Management Company toll-free at (866) 845-6596.
Planned Gifts
A planned gift can enable you to support SEAS (including gifts through the College and GSAS) while providing income and tax benefits to you and your family. Through gift planning vehicles such as bequests and life income gifts, you can address personal financial goals and make a meaningful gift to Harvard.
Individuals who have planned a bequest or donated a life income gift are welcomed into the John Harvard Society.
