A beautiful oil-water interface was made by emulsification of water and a
mixture of small and large colloidal particles in decalin. The
particle-stabilized interface was left after complete evaporation, as
shown in figure, and clearly identified by fluorescently labeled particles
using confocal microscopy. Small particles are preferably adsorbed on the
interface and large particles are trapped at some points. This interface
system is a good model system to show interface stability like foams and
emulsion gels.
