We study oxide materials science with emphasis on elucidating structure-property relations and exploratory solid state devices. Problems of interest center around controlled synthesis of oxide thin films; investigating effects of microstructure, interfaces and point defects in determining functional properties involving electronic and ionic transport in integrated devices.
Some on-going projects include:
- Studies on the metal-insulator transition mechanism in rutile oxides (such as VO2) and electron devices
- Ultra-thin oxide membranes and energy conversion devices
- Instrumentation development for high temperature ionic-electronic transport in low-dimensional oxides
