New Online Plan of Study Tool:

We’d like to encourage all students to try out the brand new plan of study tool:http://studyplan.seas.harvard.edu/ug/.  We’re still working out some of the kinks, so if you try this and have problems, please let us know so we can make the appropriate changes.

New Concentration Requirements

Many of you noticed that new concentration requirements are posted on the website.  These new requirements are essentially a reorganization of the old requirements.  We hope this restructuring will help clarify our expectations for our concentrators: students should graduate with solid foundations, mathematical breadth, as well as an introduction to an area of application.  The breadth courses are grouped into categories by mathematical topic.

There is one major difference between the old and new requirements. Under the old requirements, students starting in Math 1a took 16 courses to complete the concentration.  Under the new requirements, these students take 15 courses.  Similarly, under the old requirements, students starting in Math 1b took 15 courses to complete the concentration; now these students take 14 courses.

Students in the Class of 2012 and 2013 may continue to follow the old requirements, or petition to switch to the new requirements by speaking with the Director of Assistant Director of Undergraduate Studies (and filling out a new plan of study form).

Now Open: Applied Math Undergraduate Lounge

The new Applied Math undergraduate lounge is now open in Pierce 307B.   We hope you'll think it's a great place to socialize, study, sleep, hold small meetings (such as TF office hours), events, etc.  The current set-up of the lounge is temporary; we want to see how students use the space before we decide on a permanent set-up.  Any input is welcome and greatly appreciated!
