2012 Networks Alumni Event

As prepared for delivery

Good evening.

I am Cherry A. Murray, Dean of the Harvard School of Engineering and Applied Sciences.

It is my pleasure to welcome you to Networks, the gathering for the alumni and friends of SEAS.

I am thrilled that this event is being held on the same day as Harvard’s Commencement, as we can welcome our newest graduates to the SEAS alumni community.

Please join me in congratulating the class of 2012.

Many of you here tonight graduated long before SEAS existed. You were members of DEAS, DEAP, DAS, or one of the---if I am counting right---13 prior incarnations of the school.

Whatever era of Harvard engineering you hail from, we proudly claim you as our own.

We have always been---and will remain---a bridge between the disciplines, departments, and schools of the University.

We have always been---and will remain---an engine supporting innovative teaching and learning and groundbreaking research and discovery.

We have always been---and will remain---a “connector and integrator” dedicated to tackling the greatest challenges facing society.

We have always been---and will remain---an organization that stands in awe of the amazing accomplishments of all of you, OUR ALUMNI AND SUPPORTERS.

Please join us in our mission to create an engineering school for the 21st century.

Email, text, tweet, or, appropriately, post to our Facebook page, your ideas, stories, and sources of inspiration.

Or, if you want a more “low tech” approach, just “friend” me in person.

Enjoy the evening!

Thank you.
