During the course of your work at SEAS, you may have access to sensitive and confidential information and resources. They will come from a variety of sources including other Harvard departments, companies, organizations, faculty, students, researchers, and colleagues. Sensitive and confidential information and resources include student grades and evaluations, staff evaluations, medical and mental health information, credit card information, bank accounts, salaries, and personal information including Social Security Numbers, home addresses, and phone numbers, for example. Protection may be governed by legal, contractual, financial, or University considerations.
All employees at Harvard have the responsibility for proper handling and protection of sensitive and confidential information and resources available to them. This includes not disclosing your username/password or PIN for the SEAS Intranet and other SEAS or Harvard computing resources; not accessing, storing, transferring, transporting or releasing sensitive and confidential information without proper authorization; and if given proper authorization, accessing, storing, transferring, transporting, or releasing the information securely and appropriately. At the conclusion of your appointment, you will return all passwords, information, and resources to your manager or the authorizing party.
For compliance with Harvard University’s Information Security mandates, you are required to read and accept the Harvard University Confidentiality Agreement for Harvard Employees each year:
- Log into PeopleSoft from HARVie
- Click on Self Service > Confidentiality Agreement
- Read the agreement and click “Accept”
Information Security Principles
Staff members are also required to complete the online Information Security Principles training course annually. This should take about 15 minutes, and can be accessed as follows:
