India's Newindpress and The Hindu both reported on a talk given by Dean Venky about ways to transform Indian engineering colleges to meet international standards

"Venkatesh Narayanamurti ... urged the engineering universities and affiliated colleges to concentrate more on research even at the undergraduate level ... [He] also recommended that the policy makers should introduce a system which would make the fundamentals of science and applied science a mandatory feature in all engineering disciplines. Likewise, he advised institutions to hire more PhD and postgraduate engineering students for carrying out research in different disciplines for the benefit of the people."
