Kalpakjian honored by Society of Manufacturing Engineers

Serope Kalpakjian, S.M. ’51 (applied sciences), received the 2016 Gold Medal of the Society of Manufacturing Engineers (SME). His textbooks “Manufacturing Processes for Engineering Materials” and “Manufacturing Engineering and Technology” (Pearson) are now in their sixth and seventh editions, respectively, and both have won the M. Eugene Merchant Manufacturing Textbook Award.  

He is a Life Fellow of the American Society of Mechanical Engineers, Fellow and Life Member of the American Society for Metals International, Fellow of the Society of Manufacturing Engineers, Fellow of the International Academy for Production Engineering, and a founding member and past president of the North American Manufacturing Research Institution. Kalpakjian is Professor Emeritus of Mechanical and Materials Engineering at Illinois Institute of Technology.
