Smith named IEEE Fellow

Steven Smith, S.M. ’89 (engineering and applied science), Ph.D. ’93 (applied mathematics) has been named a 2017 Fellow of the Institute of Electrical and Electronics Engineers (IEEE.)

Smith, who currently serves as senior staff member in the Intelligence and Decision Technologies Group at the Massachusetts Institute of Technology Lincoln Laboratory, was recognized for “contributions to statistical signal processing and applications to radar and sonar.” He has made pioneering and wide-ranging contributions through his research and technical leadership in estimation theory, resolution limits, and signal processing and optimization on manifolds.

The IEEE Fellowship is bestowed upon a very limited number of Senior Members who have made outstanding contributions to the electrical and information technologies and sciences for the benefit of humanity and the profession.
