Laura Haas, A.B. ’78 (applied mathematics) has been named dean of the College of Information and Computer Sciences (CICS) at the University of Massachusetts Amherst.
Haas, director of the IBM Research Accelerated Discovery Lab, is known for her foundational research on information integration technology. She joined IBM in 1981 and was named IBM Fellow in 2009 in recognition of her career accomplishments. Haas founded the Research Accelerated Discovery Lab at IBM Research-Almaden in 2011.
She will assume her duties at CICS on Aug. 1.
