Beaton named Rhodes Scholar

Jamie Beaton, A.B./S.M. ’16 (applied mathematics), has received a Rhodes Scholarship to conduct postgraduate studies at the University of Oxford in the United Kingdom.

Beaton, a New Zealand native, was one of 95 international scholars to receive the prestigious award. Thirty-two Americans were named Rhodes Scholars, including four Harvard undergraduates. Winners are selected on the basis of high academic achievement, personal integrity, and leadership potential, among other attributes.

While a Harvard student, Beaton founded Crimson Education, which provides international and domestic university admissions consulting, tutoring, and career mentorship, and is now the largest personalized education company in the Southern Hemisphere. His work at Crimson Education has influenced his decision to study economics at Oxford, focusing on the impact of automation on labor markets.
