Andino receives education award from SHPE

Jean Andino, S.B. ’88 (engineering sciences), has been named the STAR Educator of the Year in Higher Education by the Society of Hispanic Professional Engineers.

Andino, who also holds a Ph.D. in chemical engineering from Caltech, is an associate professor of chemical engineering at the Ira A. Fulton Schools of Engineering of Arizona State University (ASU). She and her research team seek to address air quality issues through chemical kinetics and reaction engineering principles applied to understanding atmospheric chemical transformations.

The Educator of the Year Award in Higher Education is presented annually to a university faculty member or administrator who has made exemplary contributions to improve the learning environment for Hispanic students.

In addition, ASU recently awarded Andino a KEEN Professorship to further promote an entrepreneurial mindset in ASU engineering students.
