Salzberg named to uBiome advisory board

Steven Salzberg, Ph.D. ’89 (computer science) has been appointed to the scientific advisory board of uBiome, a microbial genomics company.

Salzberg, Professor of Biomedical Engineering, Computer Science, and Biostatistics, and Director of the Center for Computational Biology at Johns Hopkins University, focuses on the development of new computational methods for analysis of DNA from the latest sequencing technologies.

Founded in 2012, uBiome uses machine learning, artificial intelligence, and advanced statistical techniques to analyze the trillions of microorganisms in and on the human body.

In addition, new research from Salzberg's lab shows that a widley used reference for the human genome is missing 300 million bits of DNA. The major research result was published in Nature Genetics and featured in numerous publications, including The Atlantic.
