Murray elected to American Physical Society

Conal Murray, S.B. ’92 (engineering sciences) has been elected a fellow of the American Physical Society for his contributions to developing analytical methods of understanding decoherence in quantum computing and the measurement and modeling of strain in microelectronics.

Murray, a research staff member at the IBM T.J. Watson Research Center, also holds a master’s degree in mechanical engineering from Boston University and a Ph.D. in materials science and engineering from Northwestern University.

His research currently involves the analysis of loss in superconducting qubits, for which he was a co-recipient of the 2017 Institute of Electrical and Electronics Engineers (IEEE) Council on Superconductivity Van Duzer prize for the paper “Investigating Surface Loss in Superconducting Transmon Qubits” that appeared in the IEEE Transactions on Applied Superconductivity. He is also serving as a co-chair of the upcoming 2019 MRS Fall Meeting in Boston.
