Hyten nominated to be Vice Chair of the Joint Chiefs of Staff

Gen. John E. Hyten, A.B. ’81 (engineering and applied sciences), has been nominated to be the Vice Chairman of the Joint Chiefs of Staff.

Hyten, a four-star Air Force general, has served as commander of U.S. Strategic Command since November, 2016. If confirmed by the Senate, Hyten would become the 11th vice chief. He would replace Air Force Gen. Paul Selva, who is due to retire in the coming months.

As commander of U.S. Strategic Command, Hyten has overseen U.S. nuclear command and control, space operations, global strike, and global missile defense.
