Weinbaum receives presidential mentoring honor

Sheldon Weinbaum recognized for work with underrepresented groups

Sheldon Weinbaum, S.M. ’60 (applied physics), Ph.D. ’63 (engineering) has received a Presidential Award for Excellence in Science, Mathematics, and Engineering Mentoring from the White House.

Weinbaum, professor emeritus at the City College of New York’s (CCNY) Grove School of Engineering, was one of 12 recipients of the award, which is the nation’s highest honor for mentors who work with underrepresented groups to develop fully the nation’s human resources in STEM.

He joined CCNY as an associate professor in the Department of Mechanical Engineering in 1967.
