Q. What career advice would you give to current engineering students?

A. One of the things I have most appreciated about Harvard's liberal arts education as someone who studied engineering here is how much it helped prepare me for the real world. A lot of work involves communicating with people with different technical backgrounds, whose work involves different areas, and understanding how everyone's work fits together with others. Even though I don't apply the specific knowledge I gained from my coursework at my job (outside of statistics), I've found that learning quickly, problem solving and writing (all skills that you will hone during your undergraduate career) are skills that apply broadly to any job.

If I had one piece of advice to give you, I'd suggest that you read outside of your field in both related and unrelated areas. Let curiosity be your guide. You never know where it might lead you.
