Carol Lynn Alpert

  • Associate in Applied Physics
  • Co-Director, Center for Integrated Quantum Materials (CIQM)
  • Director, Strategic Projects, Museum of Science (MOS)

The MOS Strategic Projects Group focuses on improving research communication strategies among interdisciplinary research teams and between researchers and lay audiences.

Alpert began her affiliation with SEAS in 2001 as co-PI of the NSF-funded Nanoscale Science and Engineering Center led by Bob Westervelt (2001-2012). In 2005 she co-founded the national NSF Nanoscale Informal Science Education Network, which grew to include over 600 member organizations. In 2013, Alpert joined Westervelt at Harvard, Ray Ashoori at MIT, and Gary Harris at Howard to launch the NSF Science & Technology Center for Integrated Quantum Materials (CIQM), which is headquartered at SEAS and has been renewed to 2023. CIQM has pioneered the use of innovative (1) science communication practices to improve research communications within the Center, (2) professional development programs to enhance student and post-doc communication skills, and (3) public outreach strategies to engage broader audiences in frontier science and applied science.
